Audrey Tutors about me

Hi, I Am Miss Audrey

Learning to read can be hard and frustrating.  I know because I was that struggling reader who continued to fall behind in school.  I would get in trouble for not following along and not knowing the ‘basic’ answers.  I tried to muster up the will power to do it.  But the words would just become  jumbled on the page and I just couldn’t keep up.  It was exhausting.  I felt dumb.  It was terrible!  I dreaded being called on to read out loud in front of all my classmates and having to try to figure out where we were and decode all the unknown words.  Just reading a few words felt like eternity.

In second grade, I was diagnosed with a learning disability.  It made me feel like everyone knew I was behind and I didn’t know if I would ever be read smoothly like my friends.  Another thing that really hurt was being pulled out of class to go to the special education room.  Don’t get me wrong the teachers were nice and supportive.   It is just that I would miss out on fun things in the classroom.

Finally, in 5th grade, I no longer needed to be pulled from my primary class and tested high enough to not qualify for for the learning disability.  I wish there was someone out there who would have said, “Audrey we don’t need to get you labeled, we need to get you help.”  I wish there was someone who would have helped me break the reading code.

I sometimes still struggle with confidence . I remember how in elementary school I was never quite good enough.  I think back to the teasing, the frustration with my parents, and just feeling dumb.  But I have learned to over come these thoughts.  I graduated High School in the top 15% of my class.  And as a college student I earned magna cum laude.

My life mission is to help new and struggling readers become confident fluent readers so learning does not have to be so cumbersome.  Creating a confident reader can help a student become a life long learner.  I have learned a simplified approach to teaching children to make great strides in their reading journey.  Lessons are tailored to meet the needs of each individual student.  The program I use also allows students improve their spelling and comprehension.  It is my goal to create a fun and engaging  learning experience to allow students to excel in their reading.
